Our mission

Over one weekend, Festival BleuBleu keeps Carleton-sur-Mer’s musical tradition alive with about twenty performances showcasing a wide range of styles. From an ancestral fishing cabin to the village church and wharf, the festival transforms unique spaces into vibrant gathering places, inviting people of all ages to rediscover the city’s heritage while fostering connections between the local community, artists, and visiting festivalgoers.

Our vision

BleuBleu’s vision is to offer festivalgoers an authentic, human, and inclusive experience, rooted in respect for the region’s land and heritage. The organization aspires to establish the event as a must-attend on the cultural and events scene in Gaspésie, across Québec, and throughout the greater Maritime region. BleuBleu also seeks to support and showcase cultural initiatives unique to the Baie-des-Chaleurs by creating a space for meaningful exchange between the local community and the cultural sector. Finally, the organization aims to strengthen the community’s sense of belonging to the festival and its deep local roots by encouraging citizen engagement in a structuring, community-driven project.

Our values

⟶ Boldness and authenticity;

⟶ Equity, diversity, and inclusion;

⟶ Sustainable practices;

⟶ Community engagement;

⟶ Respect and celebration of the territory.

A word from the mayor

“Bleubleu is now in its eighth year and has easily fulfilled its mission: to be an authentic, vibrant music festival that is accessible to all, open to the world, suitable for all ages, and showcases Carleton-sur-Mer. “

— Mathieu Lapointe, Mayor of Carleton-sur-Mer

Sustainability

Aware of environmental issues, BleuBleu has adopted a sustainable approach based on four key areas: responsible food practices, site and ecosystem preservation, waste management, and sustainable transportation.

In collaboration with the City and local organizations, BleuBleu focuses on a participatory approach, maintains close ties with citizens, and adapts to the realities of the region. The team integrates sustainable practices at all stages of the organization and communicates openly about the actions it has implemented. The festival’s commitment to environmental responsibility also involves raising awareness among festivalgoers, staff, and partners to encourage sustainable behavior. Finally, BleuBleu continues to improve its practices and stays up to date on new developments in sustainability.

Sustainability Policy

Axis 1. Responsible Food Practices

⟶ Promote short supply chains by prioritizing local suppliers to reduce our carbon footprint;

⟶ Minimize the use of disposable packaging, plates, and glasses to reduce waste;

⟶ Minimize food waste by implementing inventory and waste management practices;

⟶ Prioritize organic, local, and seasonal food suppliers, such as Le Vraquier, La Mie Véritable, Vi Kombucha, and Le Naufrageur.

⟶ Encourage more environmentally friendly and economical eating by offering an entirely vegetarian menu to staff and making it available to artists.

⟶ Choose bulk and biodegradable cleaning products.

Axis 2. Site and ecosystem preservation

⟶ Develop an awareness campaign with Comité ZIP Gaspésie to inform the public about the importance of preserving shorelines and using driftwood responsibly.

⟶ Avoid holding shows and activities in sites where ecosystems could be disturbed or damaged (barachois, islands, etc.);

⟶ Comply with applicable environmental protection rules and laws.

⟶ Clean and maintain sites after each event using environmentally friendly methods, ensuring that no trace of our presence is left behind.

⟶ Prohibit the disposal of cigarette butts on site and provide ashtrays suitable for outdoor events.

Axis 3. Waste management

⟶ Install drinking water distribution systems (water stations) to reduce the use of plastic bottles and encourage festivalgoers to bring their own reusable bottles;

⟶ Encourage food trucks and market vendors to use compostable packaging and containers;

⟶ Deploy a waste sorting and awareness team on site during events to monitor the waste management chain;

⟶ Increase and highlight waste collection points;

⟶ Reuse as much of the staging and set design elements as possible each year;

⟶ Prioritize reusable, low-packaging, and recyclable products for festival purchases.

⟶ Limit the production of merchandise and collaborate with emerging artists and/or manufacturers who have ethical and responsible practices. Favor eco-friendly and recycled materials.

⟶ Limit the use of paper internally and in our promotional campaigns. Favor recycled paper and large print formats over individual programs.

⟶ Recover wood, metal, and other materials during dismantling.

Axis 4. Transportation

⟶ Offer a free shuttle service for festivalgoers, via RÉGÎM;

⟶ Encourage festivalgoers to use eco-friendly modes of transportation to get to the sites, such as carpooling, car sharing, or public transportation (website, social media, and ticket purchases);

⟶ Encourage artists, partners, and the public to avoid flying to the festival;

⟶ Provide clear information (routes, departure and return times, pricing, arrival reception arrangements) for traveling to the festival by cycling or public transportation via various means of communication. Provide bicycle racks;

⟶ Minimize team travel throughout the year. ⟶ Prioritize carpooling and car sharing for staff and volunteer travel.
