Ressac
Ressac is a series of audiovisual compositions exploring the theme of erosion. By filming video projection sessions on cliffs, David Babin aims to develop a sequence of video-music works that will be performed live during this residency presentation. Using synthesizers and cassette tape recorders, he creates soundscapes where sound and image enter into dialogue. Through loops of magnetic tape that gradually degrade with use, erosion itself becomes an active participant in the performances.
★ First performance: 5pm
★ Second performance: 8pm
★ Third performance: 10pm
★ Fourth performance: 12am
David Babin
Originally from Baie-des-Chaleurs, David Babin grew up fascinated by the power of natural elements. Although he has lived in Montreal for over twenty years, each return to Gaspésie leaves him struck by how the landscape is constantly transforming.
In 2021, he returned to university studies in the field of digital arts. This transition into experiential practices allowed him to discover a wide range of new forms of expression that bring technological art and the natural world into dialogue.
Babin’s artistic practice aims to develop forms of performance that evolve and transform like shorelines under the force of the elements. He seeks to develop creation methods rooted in the natural environment, exploring an in situ, nomadic, and self-sufficient approach.
Rather than addressing ecological precarity head-on, he aims to foster an emotional connection with audiences by highlighting the poetry of the cliffs. Instead of emphasizing what is disappearing, he chooses to celebrate what remains—what endures with splendor.
