Les sœurs Boulay et Elliot Maginot

Elliot Maginot and Les sœurs Boulay first met in a small bar in Montreal’s Quartier Latin in 2012, in the midst of the turmoil of the student-led printemps érable. Bonding over a shared love of artists such as Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, and Bon Iver, they quickly became friends, and eventually roommates. Maginot opened for Les sœurs Boulay on tour for several years, and together they travelled across Quebec, learning the realities of the music industry and the complexities of long-lasting friendships. After nearly 15 years of making music together in various contexts—benefit shows, television performances, studio sessions, and collective projects—as their respective touring cycles now come to an end, a clear idea emerged for Elliot, Stéphanie, and Mélanie: the desire to go on tour together, like in the carefree days before COVID, before Trump, before inflation. This time, all three will be on stage together, playing multiple instruments, revisiting their respective repertoires and performing the great songs that inspired them to make music their life’s work. Despite uncertain times and an uneasy horizon, Les sœurs Boulay and Elliot Maginot are doing something.
